New at version 4.0 are options for per user installation and licensing. This allows non-administrative installation, configuration and licensing of PlanTest.
Note: Licensing in this document refers to the process of enabling the PlanTest application. It does not refer to the legal use of the term , nor the legal documents executed with the client.
There are two types of licenses available in the new version. Node-locked licenses are the same as in previous versions, and this document will address them specifically. Floating licenses are only available with the On-site License Server, and are the subject of a different document for IT administration. However, the application of the license within PlanTest is virtually the same, with the exception that you must start PlanTest with admin privileges. Read more...
There are several changes in licensing:
The process for licensing using node-locked licenses is:

You can easily check the license status. Select Help Current Status... from the main menu.
You can easily retrieve the machine code. Select Help Retrieve machine code... from the main menu. The machine code will be copied to the clipboard.
To open the License Manager Window. Select Help Manage license... from the main menu. The machine code will be copied to the clipboard.
Depending on the license status, you have several options available and different messages helping you make decisions.
You can get the machine code here, or apply a license code.

Validate the license before clicking Done! Otherwise, the license will not be registered.

On validation, the license code data will be displayed and you can the click Done or exit the window by normal means.
You can also use the License Window to remove a license. If you are re-licensing due to a timeout or version change, this is the best way to prepare to apply the new license code.
Applying a floating license in PlanTest to be validated to a license service is almost identical to the node-locked license management described above. However, you must start PlanTest with admin privileges, so the license can be written to the registry in the proper location.
In addition, the install bin folder must include a special file containing the site authorization, and the JurisdictionSettings.xml must have reference identifying the license server. This is part of the IT configuration, not a user process.
Warning! To enter floating license code, YOU MUST START PLANTEST WITH ADMIN PRIVLEDGES! If you do not have admin privileges, PlanTest cannot write the license to the registry. However, you will see all as fine through the License Manager Dialog, including the validation message. It just won't save, and check of status will show as invalid license.
